The industry is moving from mass production to customized solutions, creating a tremendous increase in the demand for custom BIM (Building Information Modeling) software solutions. However, custom solutions are expensive to develop. With Forge, you can build custom BIM configurators with minimum investment and time. We created a custom simulation app for HVAC professionals to produce a sustainable design. The app simulates the performance of design spaces and HVAC systems configuration in the cloud. The class will demonstrate how to use Forge to create a new user-defined office build space. We will elaborate on how the assembly of complex 3D HVAC system configurations can be created. You will see how Revit design automation APIs can construct an accurate intelligent model on the server. Attendees will learn these techniques, as well as how to create vast varieties of online BIM system configurators such as kitchen design, furniture design, infrastructure design, and others.

The construction industry has been notorious for relying on centuries-old processes to manage projects that are getting more complex and demanding faster execution. This class will discuss how Building Information Modeling (BIM) is making a shift by industrializing construction and setting up off-site assembly lines for manufacturing modules and subassemblies that can be assembled on-site by a lean team. In this session, we will discuss case studies from several iconic global project executions (airports, stadiums, and so on) where assembly line manufacturing construction processes were deployed for amazingly fast construction, reducing the on-site work, wastages, and costs. The main focus of this class is on building the network and involving all stakeholders in the use of BIM to support modular design and industrialized construction. Attendees will learn when and how to set up these assembly lines and discover the challenges associated with them.

This lab is designed to give you a feel for the ease of use of Advance Steel software, the structural steel package that’s got the industry talking. You’ll create a structural model from scratch and then insert automated connections between structural sections. You’ll also learn how to insert more-complex structural elements, such as stairs. You’ll then generate fabrication drawings of the structural model you’ve created. Finally, you’ll generate bills of materials (BOMs) and cutting files, such as DXFs and NCs, from your structural model.

To maintain a competitive advantage, more and more structural engineers are trying to find ways to capitalize on their BIM (Building Information Modeling) data for steel detailing and fabrication. This class will explore how Advance Steel software is proving to be the missing link that lets structural engineers capitalize on their Revit Structure design models for steel detailing and fabrication. You will learn how to create automated steel connections on structural members imported from Revit software. You will then learn how to create the automated fabrication and erection drawings and NC files. This class will also show how the bidirectional sync between Revit and Advance Steel lets you bring any Revit changes into Advance Steel or validate Advance Steel models in Revit software.

In this class, you will discover a set of effective tools to address rebar detailing topics within Revit software using the PowerPack add-on. First, you will measure the added value of using wizard for 3D cage generation—applied for usual linear elements such as beams, columns, and footings—respecting common constructive disposal rules. We will present complementary tools to manage rebars during creation phase, such as controlling rebar visibility or manipulating bars (trim, extend, copy, or split bars, for example). Then, we’ll complete standards reinforcement with additional bars placed around openings and edges for planar elements (walls and slabs). We will create automatic schedules thanks to flexible and configurable templates. To conclude, we’ll generate reinforcement drawings with specific commands, assisting users to choose right title blocks, to place views or schedules in final sheets. We’ll also tune drawings with bending details, automatic schemas completing schedules and end bar symbol.

CAD software requirements are drastically changing from the traditional use of desktop-based software usually consumed by the design department. Demand for cloud-based CAD web apps (also consumed by non-technical executives) is increasing. In the class, we will see how the Forge platform and various cloud infra providers can be utilized together to create modern-day vertical CAD configurators as per the specific need of each organization. Based on stats and test cases, we will demonstrate how a serverless CAD configurator can scale up massively to address the peak-hour needs of industry while staying low on budget. We will explain how Forge services can help us to bootstrap our applications and reduce the development time to as few as just three months, and bring down the development cost substantial.

This class will cover the implementation of Advanced Steel software for connection design and fabrication modeling within an existing Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow based in Revit software. We'll take users through integration of model data from Revit software into Advanced Steel software and on into Navisworks project review software for construction coordination.

In this class, you will learn how to get the most out of the reinforcement modeling and detailing tools available in Revit software. You will learn tips and tricks for configuring your rebar project, and working with rebar shapes and rebar constraints. You will learn techniques for presenting rebar in construction drawings and extracting fabrication data using schedules and tags. Finally, you will learn best practices for placement and adjustment of free-form and shape-driven rebar, area, and path reinforcement.

In the design world, it's not uncommon that key project data is stored in application silos and requires a great deal of manual coordination. Autodesk has taken the first steps for architecture, engineering, and construction projects to make data available to multiple applications at once-by introducing a connected workflow that shares data from schematic diagrams with a Revit project. The Revit P&ID Modeler breaks silos down by letting the user begin with P&ID schematics in AutoCAD Plant 3D software to create intelligent, data-rich diagrams. The schematic data is hosted in the A360 cloud-computing platform cloud and is referenced by Revit project models. The 3D model consisting of elements such as piping, equipment, and accessories is then developed using information defined in the schematic, such as pipe size, pipe type, valve type, and equipment IDs. As the model is developed and the schematic iterated, the user receives feedback to help ensure consistency and that design intent is maintained. Structural engineers manage design changes and updates on a daily basis. Coordinating models and drawings while maintaining quality is always a challenge—not to mention working remotely or from home. The DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) principle is an effective approach to managing change during design and construction processes. Linking Revit models with structural analysis tools is one of the biggest benefits and challenges structural engineering teams still encounter. In this class, we will look at best practices for keeping structural models and workflows DRY, including linking models between Revit, Robot Structural Analysis software, and Advance Steel software; managing, coordinating, and sharing models using BIM 360 software; and reviewing construction and fabrication drawings for quality control with BIM 360. This class focuses on the how-to, and provides actual workflows that are not out-of-the-box. Learn about unique construction procedures that use the latest versions of AutoCAD® software, Revit®-based software, Inventor® software, and computer-aided manufacturing tools (CAM). Through demonstration and lecture, the class presents methods for the wood trades—tasks that usually take days for architects, designers, engineers, fabricators, and model makers to complete can be cut down to hours. Also using the latest tools in solid-assembly modeling and woodworking-specific feature-recognition technology, we demonstrate how to get from a completely assembled 3D model to machine-ready, nested, NC code with almost no user intervention (controlling machinery).

This will be a review of an initial Advance Steel software workflow implementation plan, and an analysis of what worked well and what needed to be changed. We will present descriptions of training plans, integration of Advance Steel software into actual production orders, and ways to balance project deadlines with the learning of new software on major projects. We will share best practices for training new employees with no previous 3D AutoCAD software experience. And we will discuss an update on integration of Advance Steel software with production equipment using both NC and XML output, as well as future workflow integration and next steps.
